Default Dead batery

Upon returning from vacation my car ('98 A4 2.8Q) was DEAD . I just left it unatended for 11 days and this is what happends? Did anybody experience similar problems? Well, the only thing I find to blame is the radar detector plugged into the lighter sock. Even with engine off, the lighter stays powered up. Did any of you think about messing with the wiring to have the lighter go off when the engine shuts and/or have the horn always operable (engine on or off)?

Default Here's what I'd do if I were really interested...

I'm not the electrical expert on the board. People like DonP and others have far more explicit knowledge of the switched and unswitched fuse positions available on the A4, any problems with wiring you might run into, and other issues. I won't provide "iffy" information, or I at least make an effort not to speak out on issues where I wouldn't trust myself to execute on my own advice. I would look at the electrical entries in the FAQ if it really bothered me to disconnect my radar detector when walking into a supermarket or coming home, and then open the fuse panel on my car and take a look at the job.
I think it would be easier just to hard-wire your radar detector to the car in a switched position, be done with it, and forget about messing with the cigarette lighter as a power source.
Cameron
