Unfortunately, I got in a bit of an accident last week and had my A4 towed to the dealer where I purchased it. To keep the embarassment to a minimum, I will just say I had two flats on the left side. Dealer called the next day to say the the tires needed replacing and both wheels were damaged and needed replacing. He quoted me $170/each for the tires and $400/each for the rims. Now this seems a bit outrageous to me, since the whole sport package which is the all 4 tires and 4 rims plus the suspension and steering wheel for $750 ('98 prices). Can anybody give me any info or expertise as to the fair cost of 2 new tires and rims? Thanks<p>'98 A4 1.8TQMS (out of action)

Yo Ernie: The replacement cost of wheels and tires bears NO relationship to option package pricing on a new car. The tire buiness is one of THE MOST competitive businesses there is; call <br>a couple of the tire dealers prominently advertising in any car magazine. You should be able to get by at about $140 - $155 per. As for wheels, it's a little early to be able to find used/salvage A4 wheels; if all else fails, get your salesman and/or the service advisor with whom you've established a warm, fuzzy rapport to<br>intercede with the parts manager on your behalf.<br>Good luck, and keep it on the clean pavement!
