Default Dealer Rip-Off? Oil Sludge?

Hey All,

My 1998.5 A4 QTip is in the shop for minor repairs. A month ago, I just had about $3k worth of work done (oil seals, etc). I took it into the shop because I was getting a "Service Oil" reminder on the odometer (upon startup).
My dealer called and said I have oil sludge and it will cost $ 1,100...UNLESS I have all of my oil service records. Well...I don't.
Upon HIS research, I missed 3 or 4 oild changes...

NOT possible!...but I can't prove it.

Question:
1) Does anyone know what the Audi Oil change recommendation was for a 98' A4?
2) Anyone else faced with this?

I ONLY have my car serviced with Audi. I brought it in EVERYTIME I was notified.

HELP!

Dwayne

"I brought it in EVERYTIME I was notified"... so, you didn't change oil unless they told you to?

Default Couple o things...

1. The oil change recommendation is different for the 4 cyl and 6 cyl engines. The manual lays out the recommendation for each. I believe it's 5K for the 4 cyl, and 7500 for the 6 cyl for your model year (98).

2. The dummy light on your dash is based on some pre-programmed mileage interval. It is not time based, and it may not coincide with the mileage interval stated in your manual.

3. Top right corner of these screen is a button called search. Use it, type in sludge, and read what comes back.

4. Audi has defined what constitutes a "missed" oil change. I believe if you're off by more than 1000 miles, you've "missed" the required interval...at least as far as oil sludge coverage is concerned.

If you've been a loyal customer all this time, I would ask your dealer to reconsider their decision. Assuming your engine isn't blown, that means the dealer would swallow a few hundred in repair costs to keep a customer happy. Audi won't do anything to help you.

Default Don't know if it's gonna help::: AUTO-RX

http://www.auto-rx.com/

I am not sure if this can help. Use the product over it's intensive cleaning option and see what happens.

This stuff's been good to me. I've used it since I've gotten my 01 and my engine's really smooth. And, I do only 10k oil changes.

Default Now this is funny. You had to use Rx to clean your engine and yet you still do 10k OCI

is it so that you have a reason to Rx again in the near future?

Default short answer in the subj. line is easier to read (no need to open the post).

... unless you have more to say and your post doesn't fit into the subj.line, of course.
