Default dealer service - no more oil filters

My service tech at the dealership told me that they no longer change the oil filter on the the 5/15/25K ... mile services. If I want the filter changed I have to pay extra.

He said that the oil filter is included in the service for the 10/20/30K ... mile service.

Anyone else heard this?? In my opinion an oil change is useless if the filter is not changed.

5K service interval applies to 1.8T's.<p>---- '98 A4 1.8T QMS etc ----

I was told the same thing (kinda). And the dealer even gave me a sheet which show it (no filter change for 15/25/35/45/...mi). The 5000mi filter was included though and it shows on the sheet.

For us in Canada, as per this sheet, no filter change for 24/40/56/72... km.

Dealer still recommeds the filter change, so I guess I'll be paying for those filters.

Default Audi, if you're listening

What kind of BS is this??? At the volume you purchase, the filters can't cost more than a couple of bucks, maybe less. I know a few bucks times how many oil changes, but you are maybe saving $10-20 per owner over the 3/50 (4/50 for 2001) service duration.

Pretty cheap move.<p>Jer

Default Its better to change the filter and not the oil..

Take an oil like Royal Purple. It states right on the bottle is safe to run it for 9000 miles. All they ask is you change the filter ever 3000-4000 miles.

This offsets the cost of $12 per quart!

By the way it is really the best oil you can get. My local source does is gone. I need to find it on the web and order a case..<p><img src=http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/AudiWorldPics/2000/civic.JPG>

Default Unfortunately true but not new. (more)

I got a sales pitch from my dealer about paying for the Audi oil filter with every oil change. I've never heard of changing oil without changing filter.

It is bordering on fraudulent, in my opinion, to claim "free scheduled maintenance" and then refuse to furnish oil filters and synthetic oil.

Not the dealer's fault, but a nickel-and-dime choice by AoA that doesn't reflect well on them. Especially by a company that prides itself on technology, performance and "The Audi Advantage."<p>Marty

Default Marty:

How do you like the White ext./Ecru int.? I'm considering buying a White/Ecru/Onyx, but if I have the dealer trade it, I pretty much have to commit to purchasing it. Thoughts?<p><img src="http://www.ringosoft.com/car/sc2.jpg"/>SC400, A4 1.8T on order
