Ok maybe not all but in SoCal they do. I went to audi yesterday to have recall work looked after on my 98 A4 2.8L QM. I told the service guy there is a bunch of leaks underneath and if they just tell me where they are coming from i'd appreciate it. Also I told them don't wash the car. So for the hour I had to kill I wanted to know how much i'd get for a trade in on a 2001 S4 that was sitting in the lot. The salesguy started to appraise my car and looked inside the trunk. He said " well i see you've been modifying your stereo a bit.. what is that a new amp?" I was stunned and looked inside my trunk. I said " Umm no that's the factory amp". He seemed baffled and said " well i guess this is just a place they use to put it" (About a foot away from the changer). I was pretty sure all B6's have the amp there as well. Anyways he continued looking around and pointed out the obvious for a final appraisal of 8700.00$. My car has two strikes against me ( according to him) It's green and it has brown leather. So he said it'd be worth alot less. So we jump in the s4 and this guy just launches it!! I didn't know what to say. He grinded going from 1st to second and had the pedal down. It was so stupid. I guess since i'm twenty he assumes this is how i'd drive the car. We go up this windy street and he's explaining about quattro and how this car really grips because of the yokohama tires and a bunch of b.s. Then we trade up and i'm driving. Well i've never driven an S4 and I must say I was impressed. The pull is amazing. But i didn't realize it would take so much work to keep it in a straight line. If I let go of the wheel it would take a hard right to the curb. I showed this to the sales guy and his response was " this car went through a 300 point inspection, most likely a salesguy took someone for a test drive and knocked the alignment out after the inspection." I still don't understand the logic behind driving these cars so viciously to make a sale. We get back to the lot and I decide to look underneath. There is a HUGE chunk out of the belly pan. In order for that to happen, something must've hit it fairly hard. It was actually more of a tear to be correct. I tried to tell the salesguy " well if something hit that hard underneath there was probably quite a bit of damage" he said " well that 300 point inspection would have fixed it all... if you don't like the car we can look at others, but i have to put this one into service." i told him i was content and would look in some other time to see if any more s4's were on the lot (B5). Then my car came back to me (washed). There was a coating of wax or polish on top that definatley added shine, but it was so thick and not rubbed at all that it left a smeared effect all over the car. I went to go get the invoice and they counter said " your car doesn't need the recall work cause your lower control arms are fine." If i'm not mistaken the recall was for the seals because if they weren't replaced the tie rods can get screwy.

As the picture shows, I think my seal is f$cked. Oh well just a rant. Kind of a long day.

A non-working air conditioning unit, a messed up fuel gauge, a bumper out of alignment, leaky oil pan, cracked radiator fan, half-lit center consol, and three tires that were down to the wear bar(illegal to sell on a car in CA). The dealer told me "It all must have happened after the inspection, during detailing". Two weeks later, the turbo blew, on a 47k 2001. Wow, good job Audi/Porsche Oakland.

2. They pay the tech, at most, .5 hour to check the car out. How much could you discover about a car in .5. Not even time to roadtest it.
3. Lemme get this straight. They washed your car? OMG, you should sue! They like cleaned it?
4. The salesguy actually looked in your trunk? Like, to see if you had a spare, or any damage to the trunk floors? Wow, the ***** of that guy.....
I wonder how much you offered to pay the tech for "just looking " at your leaks....

You lost a turbo that soon? Leaky oil pan=loss of oil and oil pressure=not enough oil in the turbo lines.
Most Dealers (I'm assuming) - will fix a car after they buy it from auction if it's got some kind of major cosmetic or mechanical issue. When they buy a car on a trade-in, they wash it and put out on the lot. The 300 point inspection is laughable, same thing with almost any other auto dealer, though.
You've really got to be on top of these cars yourself if you want the right service done - and it's almost like a game trying to get the work done right.

to get a whole bunch of work done, clutch, instrument cluster, armrest, lower moldings, air box clogged w/ leaves, dirty oil, way underinflated tires, poor alignment, faulty window track, etc etc.
there is no inspection on our cars- they simply look at them and say "eh it runs certify it", saab atleast gives you a book with every item of the inspection and the measurements/observations penciled in by the tech.
