Is it a physical lockout, or could the computer be reprogrammed to avoid it? It's a PITA to get in and press the clutch to start the car to warm up when wearing snowboard/ski boots, I'd just like to reach in, turn the key, and have the car warm and defrosted when I'm done shedding my gear.

i thought this was quite odd when i first noticed that i didn't have to depress the clutch to start. as all other manuals i've had...you of course have to depress the clutch. anyone know why it's not needed on the '97..?

a friend of mine looked at the wiring diagram in the workshop manual and simply bridged the switch. my starter thinks the clutch is always depressed. simple turn of the key starts the car. no more wear on throwout bearing. no more inconvenience. (98.5)
