Default Did the headlight switch repair now a new problem

Hello, I helped a friend do the headlight switch repair on his 96 A4. We got everything apart smoothly and were able to fix the bad connection. We put everything back together and boom the headlights work like a charm, however a different problem occurs now the dash's backlights wont turn on when the lights are on. Also the odometer and tripometer light up when the lights are off but when you turn the lights on they turn off. I am guessing we miss aligned one(or both) of the copper connections when we put the headlight switch back together but I am not sure, any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

Did you replace with a new switch, or just clean the old one?

It's not clear from your post.

Just cleaned the old one and we were just were able to fix it. The top copper connection plate must have been bent a little when we put it back in, so we just rebent it back and everything works now. Thanks for the help though.

Did you notice any difference in switch action after the fix? I recently pulled mine apart and used the tech article posted as a guide. Worked like a charm!!!
