So today my buddy Mcneal and I pulled his car in the garage for a 140k service, and a little upgrade. Little is an understatement. On the agenda:
-ECS Ultimate timing belt kit
-APR Snub mount
-Ebay (Godspeed) FMIC.
We started around 10 in the morning and finished in the mid afternoon including a decent lunch break. We snapped a few pictures, it was most definitely easier or a job for 2 people. Just seemed easier with an extra pair of hands.
The ECS timing belt kit:
The ECS kit was a good choice because it came with everything to need. Every belt, the exact coolant, and all other parts. Even a food water pump with a metal impeller. I liked it; even though I'm sure you can get all the other parts individually and have lower total cost. But there is no guess work and we're lazy. We got instructions for the DIY on Audi world.
We tore the entire front off the car to make everything a lot more accessible. It didn't take much longer to do so, and we found that it helped a lot. I'm surely a novice. We did the snub mount at the same time before putting the nose back on. That was easy with everything off. And we used the instructions from the APR website.

-eBay (Godspeed) FMIC Larger core upgrade.
We looked at pics from a Ractec install since the kit is pretty much identical. THOUGH the eBay kit does not come with ANY mounting or bracketing hardware. We had to ghetto fab up our own for the time being. This is not a DIY for the FMIC... so ask questions; I'm not going to list everything out, as we don't remember. This took us from mid afternoon to late at night. And of course Mcneal did most of the work while I just walked around or broke other stuff.
The pipes were a near to perfect fit, a little minor trimming here or there. There is always going to be some trimming. Here they are coming out on each side:

They look nice.
And with the whole core on there with some ghetto impromptu mounting that actually worked out great... here it is...

The trimming and fitting of the bumper was probably the worst thing ever. This took forever, trial and error. Most all of the metal on the back of bumper had to go, and a lot of plastic mounts such as the mounts that hold the black lower grilles in place
<a href="http://photobucket.com/" target="_blank"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v146/phunkfx/IMG_0249.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting"></a>
After lots of cutting here, lots of grinding there we get it all to fit. With the exception of putting the passenger side bumper bolt up in there, the IC pipe was right in the way. So after removing that, putting the bumper bolt in, and getting the pipe back on... we were needless to say strung out. But all in all, we got it on there and all buttoned of for the time being.... and this is the result for now.

...all in all the eBay FMIC is a PAIN IN THE @ss! But after feeling and testing the air temp difference from the turbo side to the throttle body side, it was all worth it. The turbo side was fairly warm to hot, and the TB side was COLD. A definite power/performance increase was noticed, nothing drastic, but noticeable none the less!
I hope you enjoyed the experience. Thank you.
