Default Difficulty with transmission

This is my first manual car so bare with me here. Do I just pick a number at ramdom and put the stick in that position? When I stop at a light and then go should I selected R for "ready"? Also why does my car have 2 brake pedals? Is this for the left and right brakes? Please help; again this is my first manual car.

Well, you almost have it right. The numbers 1-5 on the stick are for selecting how many lanes are on the road you are currently driving on (in each direction). So if you're on a two-lane highway, select 1. The "R" stands for "Road". Use the "Road" setting when you're not sure how many lanes there are. As for the brake pedals, always *only* use the leftmost one as this will provide the smoothest and least intrusive braking. If you must use the right brake pedal, remember to *pull it up* with your foot, not push down. (This pedal brakes the rear wheels so it's obviously reversed.) Good luck!

Great! Just bring a cell phone and make sure you have 911 on the speed dial. Driving a manual isn't easy.

1) Pedal to left is superfluoous; just a backup for center (brake) pedal. Don't ever have to touch it.
2) Pick whatever number you like, then push gearshift in that direction. If it won't go in, keep hammering it; it eventually will. You might hear sone clanking/crashing/grinding noises; if so, don't worry. They will eventually disappear.
3) GET A LIFE!!!!
