Default Dirty Dirty MAF sensor - anybody here ever try cleaning one?

I have read that brake cleaner should work - I'd like to have somebody that has cleaned theirs tell me what they used, if it worked etc. I don't really want to start messing with it until I know.

Reason: Check engine light comes on, vacuum hoses all seem good... dirty MAF has been listed as a possibility for the error code, and I have a K&N filter.

Default pull it out, soak it in rubbing alcohol/isopropyl

remove your K&N go back to the paper filter.. the MAF sensor gets soaked in that oil and gets fvcked over...

if you under oil it, you aren't getting enough protection.. if you over oil it

well... you get the whole maf sensor issue.
I just cleaned mine with isopropyl by soaking the maf in a zip lock bag full of it

Default K&N's work fine if not over-oiled. Ran them 4 yrs on my URS4 w/no MAF problems

So they can work fine if oiled per instructions.

Default wrong. your URS4 does not have the same type of maf.

there is a huge difference between a hot film maf and a hot wire maf.

Default The K&N was new, so...

I haven't oiled it myself yet. I don't know if a dirty MAF sensor is even the problem... just troubleshooting at this point.
