Default If it's leased through AFS...good luck...

Based on accounts here, AFS won't budge on the lease residuals, you pay what's in your contract. Call a few months before the lease is up, and they may be willing to forgive the last few lease payments and let you buy at the lease residual stated in your contract. This will save you some money ($600-900), depending on how many money they let you off the hook for.

If the leasing company is someone other than AFS, you may be able to bargain with them (and you should). Throw out a number near wholesale, or just above. If they don't accept your offer, they will end up auctioning the car off, and they will be lucky to get wholesale.

Default Yeah, but if you read my post...I don't think that will work.

With AFS, I recommend contacting them at least 3 payments before the lease end, and let them know you want to buy, then discuss options with them. If they are unwilling to bargain on the residual, see if they will discard the last few payments on your lease.

Default they don't take offers... they'll just re-sell it as an "assured" pre-owned.

Other leasing companies don't have that option, so they are more likely to make a deal.
