Default Once you've mastered the "variable" as you stated,Driving all out with

the turbo spoolling at required rpm levels it becomes obvious who is more advantaged on most circuits

Default problem I had with Big turbo & auto-x'ing was exactly as described (more or less).....longi

my auto-x experience, is you pretty much put it 2nd gear and GO.
The unfotunate thing I ran into (as I've said before) was "boost onset" was above 3000rpms and often times in a hard braking, sharp turn-in situation (even with the early acceleration point quattro offers) you could count 1001,1002,100 BOOM "turbo onset".
But, once on the boost very easy to control, just the expolsion of it at 3100rpms was very toggle switch like.
And if you think going into 1st as an option, the very moment you downshifted you'd hit the rev limmiter, and shift again to 2nd and lost all kinds of time, and alot of work to boot.

On the other hand, when I was just chipped (GIAC) and in my rookie season. Me and a guy with a 96' Vette were head to head for 6 events 3 runs each. I beat him real time every run, (you gotta love them responsive KO3's) but, he handicapped me to win the 1st place trophy by 0.0193 sec.

as far as kicking out the back end, as in the article you have there Miata etc with a big turbo, my very first run with Big turbo and race slicks had me sideways into the very first chicane 8-) (ask moBrazen)

If there was just a way to get "boost onset" lower it would be sweet for auto-x. The track it won't matter you have the luxury of keeping revs above 3000 probably even in the tightest hairpin.

my $0.04

Default Exactly. That's why a heavily modded 12v will eat a 1.8t's lunch at the track. *zzzzip*

Default Yes, harder to drive, but not necessarily slower...

I think it's safe to say that a Viper has a linear throttle, but is definetly not going to be any easier to drive than say, a 450HP turbo car. Fact is ANY truly fast car is going to be harder to drive, though being able to put down the power in AWD sooner will make it MUCH easier.
