Default dissapointed with Koni coilovers - change to ??

I've had them set to softest setting and three finger width gap. (98 A4 1.8TQM) Handling is great and ride is good enough, but one thing is really grating on me. Over 70mph, the highway ride gets jittery over the washboard that is part of every highway in the northeast. To much vibration comes in through the seat and steering column.

I have Bilstein HD's on my '93 100S with stock springs and the ride is just right, you can tell the washboard is there, but it doesn't transmit it all to your spine or fingers.

I really don't mind a stiff ride around town, but on the highway, I want something smooth for long distances, any advice?

Default Why not stiffen them?

Softest settings on the Koni's are really quite soft.

Default WOW!! U the first person that's not satisfied with Coilover sus....

However, the reason u speak of, is a reason why not to get coilovers.
First, Its Expensive, Second, If u don't track the car, then u don't need that set up.
Third, U always gotta mess with them. Raise...Lower....Ohh, ****, its too soft, Ohhh **** it sit too low, it rides like a shopping cart.....etc.
I had coil overs on a 88 scirocco, and i could never find the right setting. In NJ Highways, it was nice, however, go out in the city of Phila for a night and the car rides like ****, and bend rims, bubble tires...etc...

Default Did you try them a tad lower .. maybe .5 inches? You might be sitting at a point where you have a

little too much load on the spring. That said, that is precisely what I don't like about twin tube hydrualic shocks. I don't find them very compliant over small amplitude bumps like wash board and expansion joints.
I am running B&G single tube gas coil overs and the ride is smoother than the OEM sport yet gives me excellent handling. A few AWers have riden in my car and all said they found the suspension excellent.
