Seriously, have you tired searching? This question has come up hundreds of times before.
Your car (if it's a 1.8T) already has a diverter valve, unless a previous owner thought it would be cool to have a whoooosh sound and put a BOV in there. :-(

A diverter valve allows unused boost to escape from your engine. When the throttle body is closed (during shifts etc), the valve opens and re-routes the boost to the low pressure side of the turbo.
If your diverter valve is malfunctioning, boost will back up into the turbo and cause shock which will cause even greater turbo lag upon accelleration.
Most people replace the the stock A4 valve because the rubber diaphram is weak and is known to fail. The best replacement is what as known as a "710N"- which is the stock valve from an Audi TT.
Buying a more expensive DV like the Bailey Motorsports alloy will NOT give you any increased performance over a stock DV that is functioning properly.
And finally it is not a difficult item to replace.

like 06a-145-710-n ???
so if he wants one he can actually order one and not sound like a fool..... asking for a 710n at a dealership is not the way to do it... either know what you want the part from or know the whole part number... thank you please.

my old diverter valve worked fine, no tears or leaks i still replaced it with an EVO motorsport billet diverter valve (a while ago) and it seems to re-gain boost quicker after the shift. is it placebo effect? "i got a new part it must have made a difference!" ?

Just curious, how did you know it had no tears/leaks? Did you open it?
Theoretically, diaphragm-type valves are supposed to have quicker response, but in reality, who knows?
I've had my diaphragm Forge DVR for over a year now with X chip. No complaints either.

same year as the manufacture of my car, so i dont think it was replaced, it never honked and i tested it with a compressor and vac pump and it held fine.
