Default DIY Timing belt saga followup and questions--TIA

On 99.5 1.8 tip with broken tb tensioner, I replaced timing belt and tensioner over the weekend. Car idles and revs fine but no power under acceleration. Going to test compression later today.

If I was off a difference of a tooth between cam/crank marks on wheels on the belt installation, would that cause this lack of power? And if so, can I simply recheck the marks on the belt and try to reposition it?

Default you'd have to be off more than a few teeth to really feel it...

double check your timing marks..

Default You were right, bottom mark is off...now what do I do? =)

When changing timing belt, I didn't check both the top AND bottom marks to verify TDC--instead I only checked the top mark and switched the belt.

I just checked the bottom mark now and discovered it's off quite a bit--almost 3 inches counter-clockwise. How do I correct this? For example, should I remove the belt from below and rotate the cam till it marks up properly?

Default yes. rotate it in the directon that would be the shortest...

in other words, dont' be afraid to rotate it 'backwards' to get it to the mark.
