Do bad spark plug connectors take out ICM???
according to AutohausAZ they do.
My last one only lasted a little over a year.

<a href="http://www.autohausaz.com/search/productx.aspx?sid=pyt1qm33ykxaao45m5bjkz33&mak eid=800002@Audi&modelid=1352494@A4%20QUATTRO%2 0TURBO&year=1999&cid=25@Ignition%20Parts&a mp;gid=7172@Ignition%20Control%20Unit/Ignition%20C

I have 10 years on my original Bosch ICM, w/ original plug connectors that are cracked. =-P
I think they want you to buy another part while you are at it. True it can also be a cause of ignition faillure, but that part causing the ICM to short; I'm sceptical of that one.

possible, but you will have misfires from the bad plug connectors first.
They can take it out because the ignition coil will require more energy to jump the defect, and hence request more current from the ICM.
But typical ICM failures are not due to the transistors failing, but a poor bonding wire connection to the case

That's all my car deserves...
This damn car has nickled and dimed me one too many times over the past decade. So..I cheap out when possible. The mirror switch fell apart on me, $135 at the dealer...used on Ebay, $25. The switched arrived, it's like new and works just great. For now on this car is getting used parts when it can. I know, some things should be bought new.
