Default Do INNER tie rods go bad

Had a state inspection done and they said that it needs an inner tie rod. Looking at the new part, I can't see how it could go bad. Could he have meant that it needs an OUTER tie rod. I can't see an easy way to get that boot off the inner tie rod.

Does anyone know of a good write up on replacing the inner tie rod? That boot is annoying.

Well, you could get the right tool or you could replace the boot while you do it.

Turn the rack all the way to that side and you can use conventional tools.
Replace the boot while you're in there. I used tie-wraps to secure it.
