do we really need a turbo timer, or is it just because every one says we need it?

Default do we really need a turbo timer, or is it just because every one says we need it?

I have made a pretty good relationship with a shop in Davis California called 2Bennett audimotive. I was talking to one of the mechcanics on the whole turbo timer topic for our cars. I have a 99.5 a4 1.8t Q, he pretty much said that cars with our cooling system with coolant traveling through the turbo didn't need them. (I didn't know that we had coolant cooled turbo) But that's what he told me. What do you guys think

the coolant won't still filter through the lines after the car is shut off?

Default Coolant stops flowing when you shut off the car.

So, it's important to cool the turbo down before you shut the car off.

Now, you don't need a turbo timer. It's a convenience device more than anything. Frankly, the best way to cool down the turbo, is to drive like a granny the last 1-3 miles before you park the car. For good measure, idle the car for a minute, then shut it off.

Default Turbo timer is a gadget not a convenience device

unless you call someone driving off with your car a convenience. =P

Put 160,000+ miles on my eclipse stock turbo without a turbo timer.

Default can't drive off. Steering will be locked, and engine shuts off with ebrake IF installed right
