do we really need a turbo timer, or is it just because every one says we need it?

Default I dont care how right it is installed. If someone wants it they can and will take it.

I have been installing automotive alarms for nearly 20 years and thers is no such thing as "cant" when it comes to taking a car.

i think he meant that the turbo timer wont contribute to someone stealing your car.

Default yup

well others may care. I care. its all about how easy to steal?

i don't see the NJ thefts being towed cars. of course if they want it, they will steal it. everyone says that. a thief will want the easiest possible way. its too easy to steal our cars. alarms are a false sense of security but atleast its a barrier. to you and I it might not be since we install the darn things.

coocoomike, you're right, i was referring to the timer contributing to people thinking the car is running so they jump in to drive it away.

I'm thinking of getting a compustar alarm. It has remote start and turbo timer built into it.

Default Coolant does the same thing in the turbo that it does in the block .. it circulates due to the temp-

erature differential between the hot parts, i.e. block and turbo and the somewhat cooler coolant in the radiator. Granted it doesn't circulate like the coolant pump was running but it is sufficient to help cool the engine and turbo provided you don't flog the car and shut it off with the turbo glowing red.

So, is the "door chime method" a good enough means of self-timing a cool down?

Default Yes, however I always precede that with 1-3 miles of easy driving.

If you choose not to do the granny driving before parking it, then anywhere between 1-5 minutes of idling is appropriate, depending on how hot the turbo is.

FYI, the door chime is about 60 seconds.
