Does the 2000 model year 1.8T's need the timing belt changed before 60k?

I believe they have the revised tensioners, but was wondering if they are as susceptable to failure like the previous years. Thanks

I did mine at 65k because I had the front off to replace the electric fan. I think the question is: if it breaks before 105k will Audi repair your engine? I wasn't willing to chance it. Turned out it wasn't all that hard to replace, it's just scary becasue you have to take so much of the front of the car apart.

The belt is no different (in material of construction) than those used on VW 16V engines. They've been known to go as far as 80-85K miles before failure; but after 60K, you're on borrowed time.
No point in taking that much risk (of an $1800 repair) on an inteference engine...regardless of the 105K change interval "recommended" by VW/Audi.
