YES - The Passat, A4 and A6 share versions of the same platfort - difference in wheelbases, etc.

Default Sort of, the Passat is stretched and stripped down. But still based on the A4...

Which is why it has done so well in reviews since it started using the B5 platform.

Default HA! you may be right. There is a 2.8 in PA, and an Avant in Michgan...But I have never personally

seen another.

Default There is a second Tropic Green A4 here in the DC area. I've seen it a couple times.

But, very rare indeed. Most people I find either lover or hate it, mostly the latter :-). Have you noticed that after a while all the other cars seem so bland...

Default True, but Passat is closer to A6 than A4 in driving experience

I recently test drove and wrote up a Passat GLX 4Motion. My overall assessment: $30,900 might be pricey for a VeeDub, but it's a bargain for a somewhat de-contented A6. The Passat's spring rates, drivetrain, steering feel and overall gestalt (if that's the word) are much more oriented toward highway cruising (a'la the A6) than to carving up the esses (a'la the A4).
