shocks can start to go as early as 30k, i think driving style and roads have as much to do with their lifespan. At 53k its a no-brainer to do the shocks, IMHO. As for springs, that's a different story. Springs are quite durable, i would not change springs (out of necessity) until at least 150k. Now the thing is, labor to get in for the shocks is pretty much the same as getting to the springs, that is to say, when you do the shocks, its the best time to do your springs. Springs are not expensive, around $230. So id heavily suggest you get the springs since you need to change your shocks. Espically on a non-sport, the handling difference will be night and day.
