I assume he wants a V6 Tiptronic, as that's all you can get the AWD Passat with

Default To clarify all of the confusion below....a summary....

"quattro" is the name given to Audis with AWD, and in this general term only means it has AWD, not what type of AWD system.
"4 Motion" is the name given to VWs with AWD, and in this general term only means it has AWD, not what type of AWD system.

Current cars sold by Audi or VW in the US...
The Audi A4, A6, & A8 have a Torsen type AWD system. This is the exact same as the Torsen type AWD system in the VW Passat.
The Audi TT has a Haldex type AWD system, which is different than the above mentioned Torsen equipped cars. (The AWD GTi in Europe also uses a Haldex system, and because it's an AWD VW, it's called 4Motion)

The Torsen type system distributes torque evenly to each wheel under normal operating conditions, and varies the % as slip occurs.
The Haldex type system is primarly a FWD system under normal operating conditions, and varies the % as slip occurs.

Haldex has the ability to provide more torque to a given wheel than does Torsen, but I do not know the actual numbers, so I won't say.

The Passat 4motion in the US is only available with a V6 Tiptronic

Default It may be simpler to split it up by platform...

The smaller VWs and the TT are all built on the same platform, while the Passat, A4 and A6 are all built on the same platform.

Default exactly - now cris-cross that with VW/Audi and you'll get your 4 possibilites

VW + small = Haldex 4motion (Euro GTi)
VW + large = Torsen 4motion (Passat)
Audi + small = Haldex quattro (TT)
Audi + large = Torsen quattro (A4, A6, A8)

While we're at it....to add to confusion?...

The VW Passat & all 5lug Audis (except the TT) have 5x112 bolt pattern
The Audi TT & all 5lug VWs (except the Passat) have 5x100 bolt pattern

This is correct. 4-Motion & Quattro just signify AWD, but do not mean a specific type.

Default About 4 inches :):):)

You know what they say: it's not the size of the wave, it's the motion of the ocean...
