Default Finally a straight answer. Thank you. I figured one of you would have heard of them doing such a...

...test on a car which is autoX'ed.

Default 0.9 is pushing supercar territory...

The suspension geometry and tires have a lot more to do with it. The goal is to keep the contact patches as level as possible and evenly distribute the cornering forces as well as you can. The car's fore to aft weight balancing also plays a major role, as does total vehicle weight.

Default tell him the following to shut him up:

1) the Audi R8 will walk a mustang R around the skidpad.
2) the skidpad is a useless test and so is the number. It doesn't even account for transitional ability, which is good you know, if your buddy would get his head out of the nascar cesspool and realize turning BOTH ways is cool.
3) oh, and it is a FORD for christsake. Who the hell would want ti drive a FORD?

Default If it's a new one with the fully independent rear suspension I'd believe it...

Though skidpad numbers are difficult to reproduce reliably. The M5 is another vehicle with a very high skidpad number... sometimes reported as 1.05, more often 0.95. Anything above 0.9 is pretty damn good. A Z06 Vette can pull 1 g numbers as well.

Default I'd drive the **** out of an Aston Martin :-)

Skidpad is a good comparitive number. Does it describe how the car handles in all situations? No. Does it describe how the car performs in a controlled test that can be reproduced for other vehicles? Yes.

Just like 0-60 times don't tell the whole story...
