No, it won't. You can use ECU's from newer cars in older ones, but not vice versa...

Default I've read posts that conflict with this...

The posts I recall reading state that 97-99 ECU's are compatible. Transmission config supposedly doesn't matter. I can't confirm or deny this, I'm just telling you what I thought I remember reading here.
