Does anyone know what wire to tap when intalling a boost gauge so that the dimmer controls it? pls!!

98 model does not have lights in vents...must tap something else..don't care how far away it is...
I'm going to be installing a navigation and boost gauge in the same day...It does not matter where I need to tap in, so long as I know where

ahhhh, try the dimmer switch prehaps?
cant remember exactly where it was cause i dont have the a4 anymore, but if im not crazy, which i may be, there was a dial or something that dimmed the cluster.

IIRC,I tapped the blue/gray wire behind the A-pillar that runs up to the sunroof controls backlight
I just ran a ground wire to the metal frame of the dash board.
BTW, that's on a 2000 A4. I don't know if the wiring for all MY A4 are the same.
