there was accident on the jersey side of the lincoln tunnel today. lucky for me, i had the fine chance of sitting in bumper to bumper traffic inside the tunnel for about an hour.
two cars ahead of me was this bus who was blatantly polluting the air. the smoke and fumes inside the tunnel were so damn thick, i could barely see 10 cars ahead of me!
whenever i enter the tunnel, i either turn off the heat, or if its kinda cold, turn the a/c on and recirculate the air so i can keep the fumes out.
this afternoon the temperature inside the tunnel was way below freezing so my damn airconditioner compressor would not turn on. obviously it started to get very cold inside my car! i would turn on the heat in spurts so that i wouldnt freeze to death, and everytime i did, my eyes would start to sting and water from all the pollution! i wont even start talking about my asthma!
there has got to be a better way..

That tunnel should have fans to bring in fresh air!! Obviously, they don't work just like the rest of NYC infrastructure!

Normally hitting recirculate turns on the AC, which in your case wouldn't work because
of the temperature. But if you hit this sequence [ auto-recirc-econ] you will get your
fresh (or heated) air going through the filter. Voila - no odors! Sorry you had to suffer
before learning this!

then I can only guaranty that this trick works in 99.5's and '00's with the new climate
control (and and econ button).
