Default Does a car really loosen up after the first oil change?

I saw a few post from people noticing that their cars have improved power, fuel economy and overall performance after the 1st oil change. is this true? will I notice this also after my 1st oil change?

Dont they use a different oil for the "break-in" period?

That's what my dealer told me as well...don't get the oil change for 10,000 miles.

Auto manufacturers haven't used 'break-in' oil for years! New Corvettes come with Mobil 1 synthetic right out of the box. My new Passat 4Motion (Audi 30V V6) came with SAE 5W-40 in the crankcase from the factory, and I changed it and the filter at 250 miles. These first changes are important, as this is when most of the foreign material from run-in is circulating around in the oil. I'll do it again at 500 and 1000 miles, then every 5000 per warranty specs, using Mobil 1. Just my opinion...

10,000 MILES? Your dealer must be hungry for engine warranty work. On second thought, if you go 10,000 miles before your first oil change, they'll VOID your warranty...

Default I didn't notice any dramatic change after the 1st oil change...

After my break-in period I was definitely driving the car harder though :-).

It's unlikely that an oil change would suddenly change the characteristics of the car. If you move to a lighter-weight oil you may notice some changes in terms of fuel efficiency and the car may feel like it revs easier as well.

I'm not sure what weight oil is used from the factory or what your dealership switches to.

Don't expect any mircles after the oil change, but you may notice some differences.
