Default Does a chip on a 1.8 yield substantial gains BEFORE the turbo kicks in?.....

if yes, how does it achieve this? Isn't it just a naturally aspirated engine until the turbo kicks in?

So at most isn't it just optimizing air-fuel mixtures before the turbo kicks in? I wouldn't think that this would yield much....sure a slight difference maybe, but not a huge difference.

Am I wrong here? How does the chip do this pre-turbo?

Correct - same effect as your chip. Next to nil. =)

Default LOL . . . and CHIPS can improve wet braking as well!

My car performs the same BEFORE the turbo kicks in with or without my chip.

Default that's what I thought.........so is this guy imagining things?......

check out some of the responses.....some seem to be arguing that there is some pre-spool boost and/or improved timing.

not trying to stir things up....genuinely curious...

https://forums.audiworld.com/a4/msgs/1186260.phtml</a

Default this might give you an idea of torque output... it's for 1st through 4th, so just look at the first

peak.

Default oh, and I'd say "modest yet significant" as opposed to "next to nil"......

Default nothing really, just look at how under 3k torque is slow to develope... but once you hit 3k it's

sling shot time

Default The APR 93 octane proggy does have a nice increase in pre-boost timing........

(relative to stock) and it makes for a very nice driving experience before the mity mite K03 comes in.

In repsect, I also have the 91 octane program and its more boost dependent...the engine feels fairly gutless (compared to the 93 mode) before the turbo hits.
