Does the leatherette hold up well with mileage? Any complaints?

I just noticed about 10 small tears on the seat bottom left side bolster (driver's seat). These tears are about 1mm to 5 mm in length, and the 'appear' to run with the (fake) grain pattern of the vinyl. My first thought was that someone had something in their pocket and ripped the vinyl, but these as so fine and along the grains, that I think it's some sort of unusual wear.
The dealer offered to either fix the tears (with some sort of heating...) or have the Audi rep look at it next time he is in town to determine if Audi will allow me to get a new seat cover or new seat or ???
Anyone else have this?
Other than that the leatherette is great, especially if you have kids.
