Does MIL store errors?
I have a 2001 a4 1.8t w/ 81,000. The MIL has been going on and off what seems like sporadically for the last two weeks. I have not noticed any change in how the car drives, although I don't drive it aggressively or anything like that.
Just curious if the MIL has a memory of the errors, or if I need to take it to my mechanic while the light is on.
Thanks in advance.

That's somewhat true but after a number of cycles it may clear out on its own.
Why don't you buy an inexpensive code reader and keep it in the car, you can buy a generic code reader for less than $50?
You plug it in at the OBD II socket under the steering column.
That way you could check the code before and write it down before you go to the mechanic. Way more efficient use of your time and $$.
