FWIW, a small tip - 2001 A4 1.8T, year ago my RV mirror fell off - the inner layer of glass separated from the outer layer (which was still fine) - so there was a disk of glass attached to the metal disk of the mirror. Never could figure out how to take the disk out of the mirror so epoxied the whole thing back to the windshield. Lasted a year, till yesterday. Just read this thread - TWIST! Ah, yes, thank you! But couldn't twist, nothing for pliers or whatever to hold on to. So, took my Dremel tool and a very small grinding bit and made two notches in the metal disk opposite each other that small needle nose pliers could fit in, then I was able to twist the disk out of the mirror. Now I'll try gluing just the disk, which still has the inner disk of windshield glass stuck to it, back to windshield, and see if that's strong enough to hold when I twist the mirror back on to it.
