Doesn't Anyone Know?
I am looking to install navigation in my 99 2.8. Can you install Audi navigation post factory, if not, what else can I do without removing my Bose system?

I believe it can be done........
I don't think the system toys with the radio - just the cluster and a control unit in the trunk.
However, I can guarantee you it will NOT be cheap. When you have all the P#s and $$'s please post them!
I wish Becker had their nav unit available in North America.

http://www.becker.de</a

the audi navigation isn't worth it anyway
The cost of doing it aftermarket would be that of the cost of getting a quality aftermarket system from Alpine or the likes, and it would be a much more quality system.
Problem is, nothing else integrates like the audi system does. It actually integrates into the trip computer anyway.
So if you want to keep the stock system, get a nagivation system and a separate LCD monitor to run it on.

New LCD Screen?
But wont I have to remove my current sterio to install a navigation monitor, like the ones that come out of your deck and are hidden otherwise, if not what kind of monitor are you talking about?

Re: New LCD Screen?
It depends on the NAV system you were to get, but you could get a fixed LCD and mount it somewhere other than the factory location. Like on a bracket to the right side of the center console, or some other creative place.
This would require a system that doesn't utulize a touch screen monitor though, like the Magellan system that Hertz uses in their cars for example.

Easily that much, but your probably talking that much to get the OEM system
Remember the OEM system is an $1100 factory option. Any factory wired option is usually 2x the cost to do after you take delivery of the car, usually just for parts. (Good example is OEM Xenons are $500 but all the OEM parts cost about $1000).
A small LCD monitor can be had for around $300-500, but any navigation system is a minimum $1000 cost just for the system.
