Doing cam chain tensioner tommorrow, any suggestions on how to make the install go easier..
or any tips on what not to screw-up? this is on a 2001 1.8t AWM. TIA

I assume you have
the cam gaskets
valve cover gasket
RTV
the tool (I think 3366) that compresses the cam tensioner
something to mark the cam chain (like touchup paint)

You still need to loosen the belt to do the job properly.. there is the ghetto version
floating around here that involved leaving the timing belt on and just loosening the exhaust caps but you are asking to stress the cam which will lead to it cracking eventually or severelly marring the cam caps.
Then someone will reply and say that its the way audi says to do it.. but it is in FACT NOT how audi says to do it and the first line of the factory directions say loosen the timing belt... then remove both cams etc etc..

there are 2 pieces that make up the cam tensioner gasket set
it is the half moon looking one and the other straight piece.
I think that there are also camshaft gaskets that go on the front end of each cam. I did not change mine - but if you are in the neighborhhod - may be worth doing. I think it is tough to remove the existing one - but you can screw something like a drywall screw into it in order to grab and pull it off...
