Hoping you can confirm something for me. I would guess that boost is more a function of throttle than RPM. Have you found that to be true?
I know that at low RPM, even full throttle won't give full boost since the turbo needs to get going first. But in general, does a heavier right foot bring on the boost as opposed to just having the engine turning at higher RPM?
Thanks. BTW, your web pages are great.
-Ron III

You are correct. I have found that boost doesn't appear until about half throttle regardless of RPM. You are running in a vacuum state up to that point. Once you pass half throttle the boost builds accordingly.
Sean
97 1.8TQM

Sean's A4 Page

Boost level is a function of both engine load and throttle position. The only time RPM comes into the picture is if it's too low for the turbo to provide boost (generally below 1800 rpm for the 1.8T)
You could have the engine at 5,500 rpm with light throttle and still have no boost but as soon as you apply heavier throttle the computer would call for boost and close the wastegate.
