door and headlight chime erratic

door and headlight chime erratic

I have 2000 A4, the door open chime stays when your in the car with the door close and the car running. After about 2 minutes that switcthes and the steady headlights on/door open door chime constant chime stays on.
it wii eventuallyy turn off, and sometimes goes for days w/o coming on at all.
Anyone got any ideas

First thing I'd check is the door contact switch.

I've looked , but can't find a conventional door switch. I have removed the door panel and cleaned and checked the various connections. At times while driving it acts like a loose wire that is making a intermittent short to ground.
Any suggestions?
