Door lock fairies?

Door lock fairies?
I've checked the archives to no avail so I would like to pose this scenario..... last night my wife and I ended up locked inside our car. We had left a restaurant and I noticed my door wouldn't close. After a couple of tries it did. When we stopped to pick up the kid from the babysitter, we discovered that neither of us could open our doors. The wife had to crawl over the seat and out the back. When I turned the car off and tried to restart it, the alarm would go off. Essentially, the car reacted as if someone was trying to steal it. Using the door switch and key fob did nothing(although it sounded like the locks were working). Finally, the car started and I drove it home. Ideas? Suggestions?

Uh, did you try pulling on the handle in the car - it's designed to mechanically unlock the door
on the first pull (if door is locked) and open the door on the second. This is specifically for the case of a loss of power. As this is completely mechanical, I would be surprised if it was not operating (as your other stuff sounds electical in nature). Gee, maybe you shouldn't tell your wife that all you needed to do was pull the handle, instead of climbing over the seat and out the back

prob a relay going someplace in the electric lock system - dealer time
one question: was car just washed and then out in freezing weather? Water might have frozen someplace and caused the lock. park it in a warm garage overnite if you can.
