Door Seal Noise.... let dealer adjust or do myself?
I noticed today on the highway that at speeds of about 70-80 mph, my 2000 A4 1.8T gets some pretty good wind noise around the door seal (up by the B pillar area). I confirmed this by pulling in on the seal with my hand, which caused the noise to disappear.
Is this easily corrected myself, or should I just let the dealer handle it?

Re: Door Seal Noise.... DEALER!!!
It is a huge job! According to my dealer.
Requires the disassembly of the entire inside door panel
and adjustment of a series of torx bolts.
When done properly, the window frame will be canted inward effectively
accomplishing what you did by pulling in the frame with your hand.
A lazy dealer will want to adjust the door strike in the jam. This is not the
proper fix. According to an Audi Tech. the repair I mention is listed described
on the repair manual CD

My dealer always said that they adjusted it but never did. I took it upon myself to fix the problem and found it to be fairly easy. Removing the door panel (in the FAQ) is straight forward. Then, four large (T35 I think) torx head bolts must be loosened and the frame pulled up and the bolts tightened down. Takes about 0.75-1.0 hr. I

Re: Door Seal Noise.... DEALER!!!
As Chrisls stated, a lazy dealer will simply try to adjust the striker plate. his IS NOT the proper solution. It will simply make the door harder to close, and will mess up the alignment between the trailing edge of the front door and the leading edge of the rear door. The window frame needs to be adjusted, independently of the door. You can do it yourself, but it generally takes a lot of trial and error to get it right - at least that was my experience.
My dealer really screwed up the alignment on my door, so I ended up doing it myself. I've sent e-mail to several people explaining the procedure. Those e-mails are at the office (I'm at home now) and I'd be glad to forward them to you if you are interested. If so, send me an e-mail at baileyk@littongcs.com.
