The TDI Club forums have a write-up on how to retrofit heated seats
The procedure is intended for Mark 4 applications, but you could probably make it work. qfrog and I used that to retrofit them into Mica's GTI.

This is slick... now I can keep the truck seats which are great and look better in the ol' girl and have heated seats. Pretty cheap too.
