Default driving with emergency brake on

My wife drove about 5 miles on the highway with the emergency brake on,,They were smoking at the first light but seem fine. Do I have anything to worry about other then having a really stupid wife?

Default Buy a bullet.... you'll be fine :)

I'd pull off both rear tires, inspect the break system. Also - your quattro system probably didn't like the added resistance on the rear end either... you may have heated that fluid up pretty good on the viscous differential, but you are probably fine for that short of a distance/time.

Sorry to hear your wife has failed the A4-driver's test :P

Default Nah. just wasted a some pad.

You can overheat and warp rotors this way, but in only 5 miles of light driving, I really doubt anything bad could have happened. It's not like she was yanking up on the e-brake to lock up the rears and flip 180's...

Default Viscous ? Fluid ? I thought that Torsen Quattro was a purely mechanical system.

There should not be any fluids involved.

More often than not, if you drive with the parking brake on, it just stretches the cable. It can be easily readjusted. 5 miles should not affect the pads or rotors too much, but it costs nothing to inspect them. Just have your dealer tighten up the cable next time you take the car in.
Look at it this way -- brakes are covered under the Audi Advantage program. Make nice with your wife.

Default mechanical discs that have fluid inbetween them. When slippage occurs, fluid heats up....

there were some good links in the past here on several awd systems, including Audi/VW's.
