are ducati 748's nice bikes... price performance... a good first bike?

too expensive to fix and, in general, not as reliable as a Japanese bike. In addition, I believe the riding geometry is aggressive for a beginner.

Many new riders buy bikes that are either too powerful, too heavy, or too difficult to ride. Beginners should put their egos away and start on something easy and light like a 250 or 500cc bike. Motorcycle are ALOT more difficult to ride than driving a car. The problem is, too many newbies realize this after they crash.
