Assumming everything stock with the fogs, the front fog lights only come on when the headlights are already on. The rear fog lights you can toggle on and off with the button next to the front fogs. If the front fogs is not already on, then turning the rear fogs will turn on the front too. It has nothing to do with reverse.
The rear fog is only one side. People dremmel out the other side and put in a bulb so it lights up on both side. Since they're fogs, they're pretty bright and keep people off your a$$

If you have one fog light on, people can see you. If you have two on they may think you have your brake lights on and, after realizing that you don't, ignore the "brighter" lights. Besides, double check but I think two rear fogs are illegal.

Stupid cop thought I had a taillight out and used it as an excuse to pull me over late-night. I actually had to explain the concept to him, turn it on and off, and then demonstrate that all my other lights worked properly. I was a really foggy night so I had an excuse for it being on. Luckily I wasn't drunk either. After that I think twice about using it at all... US drivers don't get it anyways. Or maybe I'll just hook up the other one and avoid anymore hassles from cops or people telling me I have a light out altogether. Plus, who cares if people from behind think you're braking in fog. That will keep them alert, the fog muffles the brightness to other drivers so that's shouldn't be a concert, and if you do really hit the brakes then your brakes lights come on.
