Default Easy to change rotors while doing pads?

Hi,
I am about to attempt my first brake job tomorrow, will be replacing my stock pads and rotors with Mintex Red Box and Zimmerman drilled rotors. There is plenty of info on this board and tech pages about changing pads, but little on the rotors. Anyone have experience with changing the rotors? Are there any additional tools needed or gotcha steps I should be aware of?

Also, should I expect to have to bleed the brake lines after this work?
thanks

Default Yes... but you have to remove the caliper hanger to get the rotor off.

its like 2 bolts, The actual rotor is held on by the wheel bolts and the pressure of the wheel.

So its pretty easy to remove.

Default Fronts are easy. Might need a small sledge hammer to knock them off though.

My front rotors were rusted stuck when I changed mine. I bought a small 4lb metal head sledge hammer from Home Depot. 2-3 whacks & the old rotors came right off.

Default spray em down with liquid wrench if they are bound up to the hub assy.

Use a 2x4 and strike them at the outside of the facing. This will loosen them up.

I had to do that to mine. The 2x4 doesnt make too much loud noise like a hammer does.

Default Believe me I tried everything. Used almost an entire container of Liquid Wrench

& let it sit over night. No dice. Finally used the sledge hammer as a last resort. 30 secs and the damn rotors were free. It was a very frustrating process till then. SHould've bought the hammer 1st. Oh well, at least I know now.

Default Rubber mallet?

Thats another good tool to try.

I just slammed mine with the 2x4. My precision tools are a 2x4 and a 4' long pipe. They aid me in my work.

I originally tried a 2.5lb weighted plastic mallet so as not to damage anything. Didn't budge.

Default Read all notes posted in the tech section

I think I mentioned the tools and sizes needed if they weren't already in there.

If you don't open up the lines on the caliper, then you don't need to bleed the brakes. You will want to open up the cap on the master cylinder before you compress the piston in the caliper. But as long as the system stays closed, you can avoid bleeding the brakes.

Good luck!
