Default Advice from a seasoned car audio nut.....

I would recommend against simply adding an amp and a sub to a stock system. The result is an unbalanced system that's too base heavy and sounds like crap.

In my humble opinion, the first and most significant upgrade to a stereo system is to upgrade the speakers.

If you then want to add a sub, get a five channel amp with it. Use the amp to power all four speakers and the sub. I've done this to my A4, and it sounds unreal.

In terms of "simple" amp installation? If it's done right, it ain't exactly simple. I'd recommend having it done professionally.

Default I agree with you, but I would recommend 2 amps over a 1 5 ch. [m]

I would recommend a 4 ch amp for you speakers, and a 2 ch amp for your sub(s). Along with that, a good crossover or signal procesor is also essental to any good system. And a new head unit with a good preamp will help you big time when you go for the real loud setup.

djnelsen, are you running yor stuff of the stock head [Bose?], and if so, how many volts do you this it's giving your amps?

BTW, you guys should check out my web site, CarAudioClub.com

http://www.caraudioclub.com</a

Default Not sure about the actual voltage...

but I know the high to low level converter converts the signal from the head unit to a lower level before it reaches the amp.

I agree, two amps are better than one. But I like how the single 5 channel amp made for a simple, clean installation (and it was cheaper than getting two amps). I'm only powering a single 12" 2 ohm driver, and the 5th channel of the amp can easily handle it.

I also agree that replacing the head unit would have been ideal, but I wanted to maintain the stock appearance.

I believe there is a 12V distribution block at the drivers feet to tap power from.
