Default ECU Flash

hey guys, just wanted to know if it's necessary to reprogram a used ecu and put it in my a4. i did a search and really couldn't find anything. thanks.

As long as it's the same number it should work, there is a setting for Automatic / Manual I believe.

So even if i get it from a passat? as long as the number is the same it should work? i have a 2000 a4 1.8T QM.

Part number, not program, is what's important.
