This is a permanent fault code of my chipped ECU (or ICM/ECM). Means 'Internal Control Module ROM Test Error' or 'ECM Self Test Fault'.
My '97 A4 1.8TQM's ECU has been given a chip socket and i have the original factory program in one chip and the tuned-up ('chipped') pgm in another. I dont switch ECUs, just have to switch chips in the soldered socket when want to change program.
The factory pgm does not give any fault codes.
The tuned pgm always gives this code.
The car runs fine with both chips.
When running the full self-diagnostics, no other fault code comes up.
The tuned-up chip was made by a local tuning company.
Should i bother with the fault code or not?
Isn't it a result of a simple parity check of the ROM's content that does not match?

i have bought the car with the chip installed and in good condition generally. I am also contacting them but would appreciate any help on the forum.
