I'm looking for a '97 1.8TQMS, and so I'm trying to figure out what a good price for it should be.
KBB's value looks way too high to me, but Edmund's seems about right. Is the goal in buying a used car to try and be somewhere between "wholesale" and "retail", or do you have to expect to pay around what edmunds or kbb lists as the retail prices?
without options or mileage adj. it lists the wholesale value as $15,9K, and the market value at $18,8. Is that about what you folks are paying?
If I could get a ballpark it'd really help me out in this case...

And then check out all the ads on Autotrader, Audiworld, and you local paper. But, realize that ads are asking price, and as you know, people always sell for a little under their asking price to close the deal.
Once you survey all of those sources, you should have a good figure to work from.<p><img src=" http://www.quattroclubusa.org/r/florida/newlogo.jpg " border="0">

a private seller. As for Edmund's, they list my 95 Blazer at $12,300 average retail and higher at NADA and Kelly. I've had it in the paper for $9800 for six weeks without a nibble. I think there is a glut of used cars around with lease buy backs and trades. Everyone getting new cars. My local Audi dealer has had a used 98 A4 on his lot for almost a year. In March Edmunds listed my 98 2.8 Avant for $26.5K. The previous owner jumped at my $22K offer. I had the feeling he had very few other offers.
Supply and demand rules. A used Forerunner will get a big price cause it's popular and the new sticker price is out of sight. I'd start with somewhere between wholesale and loan value and work up from there.

the next time you're purchasing a new Audi and the dealer doesn't give you "book value" for your trade in. It's not cause we're thieves, guys...it's cause they don't usually sell for book. Forget Edmund's and especially Kelly's. If you want to know what a good price is for the car, shop around at similarly equipped used cars and see what they are selling for, then offer a fair, resasonable price. Good luck. They are phenomenal cars!
