EGR valve
i just got back from the dealership, and after a very expensive diagnostic fee, they found that the EGR valve and gasket was broken. The estimate was almost 700 dollars, including labor. is this too much for this part and how serious is it?

i had a bad one in my mazda protege, and it didn't affect anything
i seem to remember someone saying that as long as i wasn't overheating there was nothing to worry about...
by the way my mazda dealer wanted almost $300 to do it, but i found the part for $180, and had a friend throw it in in a half hour for $20.
that was a mazda though...

You must have a 12V V6 .
I have never seen one of these valves fail. You can get one from a junkyard for about $75. The gasket is less than $4.
Do you have a check engine lite with an error 16785 EGR system insufficient flow?
Real common on 12V's with 70k plus miles. Its probably not the EGR valve. Its the EGR passage in the intake manifold that gets blocked with carbon. There is a procedure to clean it and the valve. Takes about 2 hours. parts are less than $20. E-mail me if you want to fix it yourself.Its not serious but your car will fail emissions and its never good to drive around too long with a check engine lite.
