Default Electronics question, just hooked up a pair of red footwell neons, and i need to figure out the

fuse amperage. The box says to plug the light into the cig. lighter, which runs on a 15 amp fuse. Since I am running two neons, I joined them and took power from the 15 amp fuse. It blew. since I am running two neons, should I replace the 15 fuse with a 30 fuse? TIA!!

Default In the words of Egan, "That would be bad."

Never use a higher rated fuse than what the wiring was originally designed to use. The fuse prevents too much current from going through the wires. High current plus narrow gauge wires equals resitive heating possibly leading to an electrical fire.

Sounds like you'll need to run a dedicated line just like with a high current amplifier.

Default Just run the ground wires together and fuse each light on its own.

You can run the power from the battery.

Default Just use an inline fuse in place of the cig adaptor.

Do the lights have an on and off switch? If so you can just run a single wire to the battery and then fuse each light on its own using a inline fuse on the power wire to each light.

Default Oh I see, yes, the lights run on one single on/off switch. The way I set it up is

I connected the power and ground wires of the two lights, ran a power line from the cig lighter fuse (15 A) to the switch, a load line from the switch to the joining of the two lights, and and tapped the ground of the lights onto the ground running to the car frame from the switch. where should I have a fuse, between the intersection of the power lines and each light (two fuses) or one fuse in the line running from power at the battery to the switch?

Default Well since each light comes with its own cig adaptor

you should just install each light on its own with fuse and use a switch at the ground to turn them on and off not at the power side.

The best way to install the lights would to run a wire(+ and -) with inline 15 amp fuse on power side and with a switch in there to turn lights on and off. Then run the wires to a dual cig plate you can get from Radio Shack so you can just plug both lights in which will also have a fuse in each line anyway.
