Engine (01A41.8T) starting to ping under load. Using 91oct. No Mods. Any thoughts?

the ecu attempts to prevent the engine from pinging by pulling timing
however, if the spark plugs are too fouled/crapped out the ecu will not be able to pull enough timing to save the engine from pinging. in some cases the ecu will even dump extra fuel to prevent ping.
sometimes the engine can ping and not pull max timing too, because of faulty hardware.
what kind of spark plugs did you replace with?
if you had a vag-com it might tell you which cylinder is misfiring. which would tell you which spark plug/coil pack is bad.
